Deidra D. Davis

Session: An equitable clean energy revolution: Investing in disadvantage communities


Dr. Deidra D. Davis is a faculty member in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning within the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University. In addition to her faculty appointment within the College of Architecture, she also serves as the college’s Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion, Environmental Justice Liaison for Texas Target Communities (TxTC), and Director of Equity and Inclusion in the Hazard Reduction and Recovery Center of Texas A&M University.  Dr. Davis earned a Doctorate degree in Environmental Resources and Policy and Master’s degree in Geography and Environmental Resources from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. As a social scientist, her research intertest combines her passions for teaching, youth education, and service by bringing exposure and awareness of past and present environmental issues within the natural and built environment.  She possesses years of teaching experience, mentoring, and instructional assistance and relishes in invited guest lectures that address two major topics of her interest: environmental justice and sustainability. Dr. Davis is currently involved in multiple funded research projects including funding from the Environmental Protection Agency where she serves as a community engagement consultant for an underserved, environmentally vulnerable community along the Houston Ship Channel. Additionally, Dr. Davis participates on various boards and committees across the university and is active in local government. Her commitment towards education propelled her to run and become elected, during the November 2020 General Election, to serve a 3-year term as a Trustee for the Bryan Independent School District (Texas).
