2018 Lifetime Achievement Award

2018 C3E Lifetime Achievement Awardee, Elizabeth A. “Betsy” Moler

On December 4th, at the Seventh Annual U.S. Clean Energy Education and Empowerment (C3E) Women in Clean Energy Symposium, Elizabeth A. (Betsy) Moler will be recognized as the 2018 C3E Lifetime Achievement Honoree for her long history of clean energy leadership. Betsy Moler is a nationally recognized energy policy expert, with particular emphasis on electricity markets, transmission policy, and climate change. She retired from Exelon Corporation as Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and Policy in 2010 after leading Exelon’s Washington, DC office for more than 10 years.

Moler had an impressive career in government service. She was a staff member on Capitol Hill for 20 years and served as Senior Counsel for the United States Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources from 1976 to 1988. Three different U.S. Presidents (Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and Bill Clinton) appointed her to be a Member of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), where she served from 1988–1997. In 1993, she was designated FERC Chairman. Under her leadership, FERC adopted a landmark initiative (Order Nos. 888 and 889) to require utilities to open their transmission lines to their competitors on an equal-access basis. In 1997, Moler was appointed Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Climate Action Reserve. She has been a vocal advocate for encouraging women to take leadership roles in the energy industry.

Moler has a BA in International Relations from American University and a JD from George Washington University.
